Youth Development, Summer Seasonal
The primary function of this position is to serve as a recess coach, supporting one classroom in each of our K-2, 3-5, and 6-8 grade bands during their lunch and recess periods. Secondarily, the 2-3 PM time slot will include assisting with supervision in our primary grades essentials classes.
In this role, we are looking for candidates who are excited to work with students, as they will be taking an active role in coaching, mentoring, and encouraging students during their lunch and recess periods when they engage in free play. We are looking for candidates who:
take an assets-based approach with students, seeing the positives in them;
actively support them with problem-solving;
facilitate positive social interactions between students and help them in the development of their social skills;
establish and maintain boundaries and clear procedures so that students can be safe;
respond quickly and calmly towards any incidents or emergencies that arise;
work in tandem with colleagues that are also supporting students in their lunch/ recess periods at the same time;
ensure all students feel included and supported;
report any incidents in a timely manner;
participate in occasional professional development to increase skills and effectiveness for performing the above duties;
seek and implement suggested feedback to better perform duties.
In this role, candidates will communicate with teachers and staff regularly and interact with families and the community. Consistent daily attendance is important to maintain continuity of support for students.
This is a great role for a candidate who is looking to explore a career in education or coaching, someone who has daily availability while their children are at school, and/or someone who loves working with students during a fun time of their day.
Temporary Part Time Seasonal RolesThe Chicago Public Schools utilizes temporary part-time seasonal support in school-based, network and central office positions. Duties are identified by the hiring manager following the application process. Positions require reliable workers who are able to provide support in areas as requested by administrators. These may include, but are not limited to:
- Office Support
- Duties related to opening and closing out the school day.
- Data entry, filing, answering phones and other various clerical duties
- Duties associated with supporting overall school operations
Medium Work:
Exerting twenty (20) to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, or ten (10) to fifteen (15) pounds of force frequently, or greater than negligible up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for Light Work.
