Position: Voice Instructor & Piano Instructor (Chicago Non-Profit Music School)

UpBeat Music is the fastest growing Music School in Chicago, with over 300 students. UpBeat is non‑profit with a mission of helping students reach their full potential through music, and providing scholarships to under‑resourced families.

Now hiring 2 positions (or a teacher with both a piano and vocal background)

Voice Teacher

Voice Teacher to work with youth ages 6‑17 years old. Students will learn to understand and use the voice as an instrument. Having fun and gaining confidence is our goal! Through warm‑ups, exercises, and songs, students are introduced to techniques that will help produce relaxed and powerful sound and tone.

The UpBeat Music and Arts Voice Teacher will work with a small team and gain valuable insight into the teaching and mentoring needs at a small and growing nonprofit. The majority of responsibilities will include teaching 30‑minute voice lessons to children ages 8‑16, planning and using appropriate instructional and learning strategies, and helping to coordinate and support program activities.

Piano Teacher

Piano Teacher will work with a small team and gain valuable insight into the teaching and mentoring needs at a small and growing nonprofit. The majority of responsibilities will include teaching individual piano lessons and co‑teaching a piano‑based music curriculum to children ages 6‑17, planning and using appropriate instructional and learning strategies, and helping to coordinate and support program activities.

Time Commitment

Initially the need is for 1‑3 shifts. 3‑12 hours/week with growth opportunities. Our teaching days include Monday‑Thursday (3pm‑8pm) and Saturdays (10am‑2pm)

Responsibilities
  • Teaching theory, technique, performance, and composition in both individual piano and group settings.
  • Utilizing exercises and games to help motivate students to learn specific ideas and techniques.
  • Conducting ongoing assessments of student achievements through formal and informal testing.
  • Helping to apply and enforce student discipline when necessary.
  • Assisting to create, organize, and manage daily games, recreation, and team building exercises.
  • Participating in planning meetings and contributing towards organizing activities, music curriculum design, and student/parent feedback processes.
Qualifications
  • Proficient in music theory and piano performance.
  • Previous work experience in music education or summer camp is preferred, but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teaching skills with children.
  • The ability to work both independently and within a group environment.
