UpBeat Music & Arts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded in 2013 to help youth reach their fullest potential through music and the arts. UpBeat believes economics should not be a barrier to music education, and the organization and its donors provide many scholarships to underserved youth every year. Their teachers are a passionate group who make a difference in the lives of each and every student - they are not only outstanding musicians, but relate to young people and their unique needs.

Individual and peer-based small group learning environments help to facilitate social and emotional growth, while students learn the fundamentals of music performance and theory, gaining confidence and self-esteem along the way. UpBeat currently employs 17 instructors and is excited to welcome more teachers to their team!

The new instructor will focus on piano instruction. If the instructor is interested in giving voice or other instrument lessons, a small student base can be provided in those areas.

The instructor will work with children ages 5 to 17. Nearly all lessons are in‑person at the UpBeat studio on North Elston Avenue, with virtual lessons offered in special circumstances.

Overall duties include:

• teach 30‑minute individual piano lessons
• teach in group settings when needed
• teach theory, technique, performance, and composition
• utilize exercises and games to motivate students
• conduct ongoing assessments of achievements through formal and informal testing
• help to coordinate and support program activities
• contribute towards organizing activities, curriculum design, and student / parent feedback

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented musician to make a difference in the lives of youth through music.

No teaching experience is required; full training will be provided.

• proficiency in piano performance
• understanding of music theory
• a passion for working with youth
• previous experience in music education, summer camps, or similar settings a plus
