Position: Educator Sterile Processing - Full - Time, Rotating

. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director, Sterile Processing, to design, develop, implement, and evaluate a variety of educational offerings to improve overall care and organizational outcomes.
  • Elevates the standard of sterile processing practice by developing, coaching and mentoring staff to become expert professionals and leaders.
  • Collects data regarding employee learning needs, at least annually, through observation, interviews, focus groups and instrumentation.
  • Utilizes standardized and develops customized assessment tools and testing methodologies to measure staff knowledge and skill in core nursing practices and within specialty areas.
  • Interprets accrediting and regulatory agencies’ guidelines to identify education and training needs.
  • Designs education that supports the medical center’s strategic imperatives, policies, guidelines, and other internal demands.
  • Leads the development of tactics to achieve the organization’s strategic vision for education and recommends deployment of educational resources to enable achievement of goals.
  • Incorporates current research and health care trends into learning needs assessments and the identification of learning needs.
  • Plans and designs a variety of educational activities based on needs assessment and develops a comprehensive annual educational calendar with key staff.
  • Designs core competencies across the continuum of expertise and practice, focusing on facilitation of learning, collaboration, systems thinking, and diversity.
  • Designs specialty-based orientations for sterile processing and clinic staffing, as well as in services and continuing education programs for staff.
  • Participates in centralized and unit-based preceptor education and development initiatives.
  • Prepares educational objectives, lesson plans, handouts, self-learning modules, instructional manuals, and tests for programs.
  • Creates programs that employ a variety of learning methods and technology and implements education activities.
  • Fosters a learning-focused culture and uses adult learning techniques to conduct diverse learning events based on needs assessment findings.
  • Creates a learning environment that encourages staff to maximize professional practice and coordinates necessary support services for education offerings.
  • Maintains an accurate system for recording activities and programs and serves as faculty in organization-wide education events as appropriate.
  • Evaluates education and training activities using objective performance criteria and recommends updates to education plans; uses appropriate tools to assess changes in learners’ knowledge, skills, and practice.
  • Revises programs based on evaluative data; provides internal and external consultation on education and development matters.
  • Rounds on units/employees to audit processes for compliance and collaborates with nursing leadership in quality, research and scholarly activities, including grant proposals where appropriate.
  • Develops knowledge- and skill-based measures to collect performance data and integrates findings into quality projects; recommends and leads educationally focused improvement efforts to enhance key clinical/operational processes and outcomes.
  • Publishes and/or presents information in area of expertise.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required;
    Associates Degree preferred
  • Certification from IAHCSMM (CRCST) or CBSPD (CSPDT) required within 18 months of hire
  • Minimum requirement of five years in Sterile Processing; certified a minimum of three years
  • Previous experience in an educator role preferred
  • Knowledge and application of adult learning principles
  • Demonstrates complex decision-making skills and problem solving ability
