High School Equivalency Certificate (HSEC) Adjunct Instructor
Reports To and Evaluated by:
Associate Dean of Adult and Career Technical Education
- BA degree in education or related field; training or endorsements in high school reading, science and math; experience working with non-traditional adults.
- Must be able to demonstrate the Morton College core values of compassion, fairness, responsibility, tolerance, respect, and truth.
- MA in Adult Education or related field, three years of teaching, ABE / ASE , teacher certification in math, science and reading. Received Standards Proficient Certification and STAR Certified.
Teach Adult Basic and Adult Secondary Education classes in math, reading, science, and social studies that prepare students to pass a high school equivalency certificate exam ( GED ). Design and implement educational activities that assist students in meeting their goals, and use a variety of teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners. These courses will be offered during the day and evening.
The responsibilities and duties of the instructor may change as the needs of the college arise.
Job Duties
- Use multiple assessment measures to evaluate student learning
- Attend required in-service activities for each contract period
- Maintain a plan for continued professional growth and document results
- Utilize departmental syllabus template, approved textbooks, and supplemental course materials.
- Submit personalized course syllabus to Deans’ Office in electronic format one week prior to course start date.
- Distribute and review comprehensive course syllabus to students no later than the first week of the course.
- Receive, understand, and follow Course Data Form as distributed by Deans’ Office.
- Adhere to printed course schedule meeting times and locations.
- Obtain prior approval for any substitute teachers or guest speakers from Deans’ Office.
- Maintain grade book in electronic or hard copy format.
- Take and record student Attendance each day.
- Submit accurate and certified Tenth (10th) Day Attendance Verification and Mid-Semester Class Roster or other report to Deans’ Office
- Give final exam at the time and date indicated on the college’s Final Exam Schedule.
- Respond to e-mails from students, staff, and college administrators in a timely manner while classes are in session using assigned college designated e-mail.
- Check assigned college mailbox regularly.
- Provide support by sending reproduction requests to the Copy Center
- Submit supplies/ materials request to Support Specialist II
- Submit technology equipment requests to Support Specialist I
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
