POSITION:
Sociology Program Graduate Assistant HOURS NEEDED PER WEEK: approximately 5 - 10 HOURLY RATE (OR RANGE): $16.00 DATES OF EMPLOYMENT (APPROXIMATE):
September 2025 – May 2026.

JOB COMPONENTS//

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assisting with developing and maintaining the Department’s internal and external communication platforms (Fine Arts bulletin board, Canvas, SharePoint, Instagram, Linked In, Engage

    DU, and others) to reach majors and interested students and promote Department events
  • Helping with planning and logistics for in‑person events and programs the Department hosts and when possible attending these events and programs
  • When possible, attending Department online events and helping with logistics such as running chat, recording attendance, and posting materials to chat
  • Organizing and promoting one student‑focused event the department can sponsor per semester
  • Working with the Criminology Program Assistant and the Department Assistant to promote student engagement with Sociology and Criminology Department by encouraging attendance at department events, providing feedback on faculty candidates, and identifying other relevant opportunities
  • Conducting library research related to sociology programs and other relevant matters/topics
  • Helping to ensure course materials for Sociology classes are available on reserve at the library
  • Meeting regularly (approximately 30 minutes once a month) with department chairperson to raise concerns and congratulations about the learning experience students are having in Sociology courses and about the campus climate
  • Perform other duties as requested, delegated or assigned
  • Fulfill all trainings and activities required of Dominican Student employees
BASIC

COMPETENCIES:
  • Computer and library research skills
  • Graphic design interest preferred
  • Able to manage own schedule and maintain accurate timecard by logging into system as required
  • Spanish‑speaking helpful for some projects – please note in application materials any level of Spanish speaking, reading, and writing
  • Completion of Sociology Research Methods and Statistics preferred
  • Research project experience preferred
