III

Transformer Technician III
is responsible for the installation, assembly, maintenance, repair, and testing of a diverse range of transformers from various Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). For more information about RMS Energy, please

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the assembly of transformers, including critical components such as radiators, bushings, and conservators.
  • De-gassing operations to ensure optimal performance and reliability of transformers.
  • Re-gasketing of transformers, including the creation and installation of new gaskets and O-rings.
  • Removal of damaged components and ensure proper preparation for transportation.
  • Assist in oil sampling, filling, and the operation of oil processing rigs, following established protocols, including dry-out procedures.
  • Pressure testing and vacuum procedures using dehydrator units, ensuring all processes meet operational standards.
  • Troubleshooting efforts to identify and fix control wiring issues, ensuring the reliability of transformer systems.
  • Perform transformer testing and troubleshooting, including Megger, TTR, SFRA, Power Factor, Core Ground, etc.
  • Testing of transformers and accessories, including passivation.
  • Testing of alarms and system protections in the transformer.
  • Participate in transformer electrical testing as specified by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), utility companies, end users, etc.
  • Document test results and accurately and promptly generate reports for customer submittal.
  • Manage and ensure the timely completion of work orders and daily tasks related to repair operations, maintaining a high standard of work quality.
  • Adherence to company policies, procedures, safety guidelines, and environmental standards, with an emphasis on spill containment.
  • Ensure vehicles, tools, and equipment are in safe operating condition and perform necessary maintenance.
  • Support the Sales team in providing leads for potential projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • 5-10 years of experience transformer oil work, transformer testing, transformer assembly, transformer service, or transferable experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office, online tools, and basic computer skills.
  • Previous experience operating electrical equipment and shop tools is a plus.
  • Prior experience de-gassing and oil processing preferred.
  • Able to interpret work scopes, drawings, diagrams, and technical documents (both)
  • Knowledge or related experience in prepping units for disposal following proper environmental disposal procedures.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with both internal and external customers in a positive and professional manner
  • Able to work independently and complete projects with minimal supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Other Requirements:
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests and a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Work location varied depending on client and project assignment
  • Ability to travel 80% of the time including weekends and evenings.
  • Class A CDL preferred
  • OSHA certification and TWIC card are a plus
