Field Service Technician II

Field Service Technician II
performs routine and moderately complex testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and commissioning of low, medium, and high voltage electrical equipment and systems in field and shop environments. This role demands a solid foundation in protective relaying, electrical testing methods, and safety procedures, along with the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
Preferred Locations:Florida and nearby states.

Responsibilities:

  • Test, maintain, and collect data on low to high voltage systems (480V–600kV), including switch gear, breakers, cables, relays, motor controls, and transformers.
  • Run standard tests using TTR, insulation resistance, Power Factor, Tan Delta, VLF, and DC Hi-Pot.
  • Perform instrument transformer tests for ratio, polarity, insulation, and burden.
  • Test relays (electromechanical and solid-state) with minimal supervision.
  • Troubleshoot control circuits, breaker issues, and relay logic.
  • Function check control panels and verify trip/alarm circuits and SCADA signals.
  • Support commissioning tasks focused on reliability and customer satisfaction.
  • Create or follow test plans and commissioning scopes.
  • Read and interpret schematics, drawings, single-line diagrams, and manuals.
  • Communicate with customers on-site about job details, progress, and needs.
  • Keep accurate test reports, service logs, and calibration records.
  • Follow all RMS Energy and site safety procedures (Lockout/Tagout, JHA, PPE).
  • Use hand tools, meters, and test gear safely and properly.
  • Inspect and maintain PPE and job equipment.
  • Help mentor Tech I team members and encourage safe practices.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in:
    Electrical Technology, Power Systems Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • 1–3 years of hands-on experience in power systems testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning (480V–500kV); relevant or transferable experience also considered.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • NETA Level II certification preferred, or strong technical skills with active pursuit of certification.
  • Skilled with test gear like megohmmeters, TTRs, contact resistance testers, and insulation testers.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 70E, OSHA , and general safety practices.
