To help facilitate our expanding business, RMS Energy is currently seeking a Circuit Breaker Technician III to join our dynamic and fast-growing team.
Our Circuit Breaker Technicians p erform maintenance,troubleshooting, repairs and testing activities on high voltage circuit breakers, including mineral oil, vacuum-sealed, and SF6 gas breakers. In this position, you will work closely with customers to ensure their equipment is operating efficiently and effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting and testing on substation-classhigh-voltage SF6, oil-filled, and vacuum-sealed breakers 13.8kV to 34.5kV.
- Conduct final mechanical/electrical performance testing, including time travel analysis, power factor, insulation testing, SF6 gas testing, DC Hi-Pot, contact resistance, and VLF.
- Disassemble, clean, repair, rebuild, retrofit, and reassemble breakers.
- Accurately prepare test reports with details of tests, maintenance, and repairs performed.
- Maintain detailed service records and communicate findings with clients.
- Working closely with customers to address their needs and concerns.
- Mentor and trained junior field technicians.
- Strong theoretical understanding of electric power systems and operation.
- Read and interpret schematics and wiring drawings.
- Maintain and enforce safety standards, ensuring compliance with industry and company regulations and fostering a culture of safety excellence throughout all field operations.
- Assume other duties as assigned.
- 3-5+ years of related experience in high-voltage substation, utilities, and industrial maintenance.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 2 years training at a technical school (Associate degree in Electrical, Computer or Math) preferred or demonstrated aptitude for this type of work.
Skilled in diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, and interpreting test results.
Proficient in reading one-line, schematic, and wiring diagrams.
Hands-on experience with substation equipment and a wide range of test instruments.
- Employs professional and effective communication in dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
- Has a strong work ethic and can independently resolve project issues if needed.
- Manages time efficiently with the ability to work and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- The primary office location is based on the job location.
- Ability to pass a background and drug screening check, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and policies.
- Minimum of 50% travel required, with flexibility for overtime, extended hours, and occasional work on nights, weekends, and holidays. Availability for increased travel and hours may be necessary during peak seasons.
- Valid and current Driver’s license with a clean driving record.

This job requires the ability to respond to 24/7 call-outs and to work extended hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Work may be conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, near low-, medium-, and high-voltage equipment and heavy machinery, in areas with elevations in excess of 100 feet, and confined spaces, adhering to strict safety protocols. Exposure to loud noises from machinery is common, necessitating the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
This job involves the risk of electrical shock. This job requires frequent travel between RMS facilities and customer sites.
Physical Requirements:
The position demands physical mobility to navigate uneven surfaces, the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, fine motor skills for handling small components and tools, and the capability to climb ladders and work tained physical effort, including standing, bending, pushing, digging, pulling, kneeling, crawling, and reaching for extended periods, is required.
