Energy Engineer, Electrical Engineering
Invenergy is North America's largest privately held developer, owner, and operator of power infrastructure. With 25 years of trusted execution, we deliver reliable, affordable energy through a diverse portfolio that includes natural gas, solar, land-based wind, energy storage, transmission, and domestic manufacturing. Headquartered in Chicago, we develop, own, and operate large scale projects that power communities and support the energy future.
Invenergy follows a hybrid schedule, working in office Monday through Thursday and remotely on Fridays if work permits.
Invenergy is seeking a Director, Integrated Energy Projects to join its Digital Infrastructure business line. This individual will serve as the program leader responsible for integrating the energy and infrastructure solutions required to support large-scale data center developments. The Director will work across Invenergy’s renewable generation, thermal generation, geothermal, battery energy storage, transmission and grid integration, and data center development teams to bring multiple independently managed work streams together into one coordinated and executable energy solution.
This is not a discipline‑specific engineering role, a sales or origination role, or a traditional PMO position. Individual technology and functional teams will retain responsibility for developing and executing their respective assets and work streams. The Director will be accountable for integration across those efforts—driving the overall energy architecture, critical interfaces, sequencing, system‑level decisions, and alignment with the data center’s power requirements.
The role will support complex data center developments ranging from individual facilities to multi‑building campuses requiring hundreds of megawatts or more of power. Energy solutions may include combinations of grid supply, renewable generation, dispatchable generation, geothermal, battery storage, transmission infrastructure, and other emerging technologies. The successful candidate will bring strong energy‑development and program leadership experience, with the technical judgment to understand how multiple power technologies and infrastructure systems interact as one system.
This individual must be able to identify required analyses, challenge assumptions, reconcile competing work streams, frame major tradeoffs, and drive teams toward an integrated solution that is reliable, executable, and aligned with project schedule and capital requirements. This is an opportunity to help establish Invenergy’s integrated energy delivery model for Digital Infrastructure - connecting the company’s generation, storage, grid, and infrastructure capabilities into scalable solutions for large‑load data center projects.
Serve as the program leader for integrated energy solutions supporting assigned data center developments, coordinating multiple generation, storage, grid, and infrastructure work streams into a unified strategy and execution plan. Lead development of the integrated energy architecture, defining the role, phasing, and interaction of grid supply, renewable generation, dispatchable generation, geothermal, battery storage, transmission infrastructure, and other technologies based on load requirements, reliability objectives, speed‑to‑power, project economics, and execution constraints.
Translate data center load requirements—including capacity, phasing, load ramp, firming requirements, reliability, redundancy, grid import/export limits, operating constraints, backup strategy, and future expansion—into coordinated requirements for the underlying energy and infrastructure work streams. Establish and maintain the integrated program plan, including…
