Under general supervision, prepares multi-discipline engineering drawings used for contract bidding and construction using computer aided drafting and design (CADD) tools.

- Using CADD, plans and prepares accurate, complete and organized representations of architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical, process and structural engineering design features from design notes, sketches, verbal instructions and direction from engineers and architects.
- Generates CADD engineering drawings in both two-dimensions and three-dimensions.
- Prepares and reviews drawings for accuracy and conformity to District CADD standards and procedures and makes revisions as necessary.
- Uses CADD software to provide data, generate reports, maintain databases, prepare quantity take-offs, prepare calculations and other related functions.
- Creates and updates Master Underground Process Piping Survey (MUPPS) drawings and databases.
- Confers with engineers, architects, and other draftsmen within the section to discuss and determine design requirements, drawing layouts, application of CADD standards and procedures and efficient use of tools within the CADD software.
- Maintains computer aided drafting and design project files.
- Remains current on CADD software techniques and tools.
- Manipulates digital data from various sources to prepare plots and drawings.
- Produces graphical displays, charts, tables and exhibits involving the use of CADD software and digital images.
- Performs field investigations and measurements on existing installations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work is performed in a typical office environment and requires the use of standard office equipment including computers. Work also includes visiting areas where hard hat, gloves, ear protection, safety glasses, and/or safety shoes may be required.
Desirable Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of engineering drafting and computer aided drafting and design in both two-dimensions and three-dimensions.
- Basic understanding of the drafting approach for engineered structures, sewers, electrical equipment, civil works, mechanical equipment, process and instrumentation flow diagrams, and architectural details.
- Skill in the use of computer aided drafting and design equipment and software.
- Ability to prepare graphic displays, charts, tables and exhibits involving the use of CADD software and digital images.
Possession of an Associates Degree in computer aided drafting and design (CADD) in the Architectural/Engineering/Construction (AEC) discipline and one year of drafting experience in support of professional architects or engineers, which must include the use of computer aided drafting and design equipment and software.
SubstitutionComputer aided drafting and design (CADD) experience in support of professional architects or engineers may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
