Salary Range: $78,000.00–$88,000.00

The final salary will depend on the candidate’s qualifications. Those with 8 years or more of required experience can expect offers up to the midpoint of the salary range. Metra provides full pay ranges so candidates can consider their growth potential.

Reporting to the Director, Civil/Structural Design, the Civil Engineer 2 / Track Design Lead will oversee the production of design documents for projects that include rail infrastructure including non‑station facilities, rail maintenance shops, rail yards, and towers. The position will ensure compliance with applicable building codes and design criteria established for rail infrastructure projects and will coordinate with Metra stakeholder departments as well as external railroads.

Primary Duties:

• Evaluate and provide recommendations concerning consultant construction designs and specifications on construction projects to ensure feasibility and compliance with Metra’s guidelines, funding requirements, and industry standards.
• Collaborate with management to resolve technical developments involving design plans, scheduling conflicts, and staffing that involve other Metra departments or outside agencies.
• Ensure all documentation confirming projects meet quality control and quality assurance guidelines as set forth in the Consultant Design Quality Management Plan is complete.
• Incumbents work under both inside and outside environmental conditions under prevailing conditions of heat, cold, rain, and snow.
• Employees may perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
