The Level 2 Field Engineer delivers on-site deployment, installation, maintenance, and commissioning services. The role combines advanced technical troubleshooting, field leadership, mentoring of junior engineers, and strict adherence to quality, safety, and SLA standards.
Key Responsibilities- Provide first-line maintenance support and respond to interventions promptly, ensuring SLAs are met.
- Carry out installation and commissioning tasks across project and maintenance environments.
- Participate in on-call rota and provide regular updates to the service desk, line manager, and project teams.
- Lead complex fault resolution or follow diagnostic guidance from the NOC.
- Guide junior engineers; support quality standards, installation practices, and partner/vendor management.
- Install metalwork, basket systems, and perform rack-and-stack activities.
- Pull, dress, label, and secure fibre and copper cabling; terminate CatX and E1; verify continuity and test fibre/cable runs.
- Complete AC/DC plug-and-play connectivity work (excluding final certification power-up).
- Supervise internal and external installation teams and manage RAMS documentation.
- Conduct installation quality audits, plan remedial work, and provide KPI performance feedback.
- Perform intermediate fault diagnosis using OTDR, Ethernet, optical testing, and standalone/network commissioning tools.
- Deliver hands‑on coaching through lab workshops.
- Lead designated projects, manage technical escalations, and produce high‑quality documentation.
- Support project managers with basic coordination tasks and carry out HSE and SVSA site inspections.
- Take ownership of assigned faults through to full resolution.
- Maintain strong working relationships, uphold safety and engineering standards, and perform ad‑hoc duties as required.
- Extensive experience building telecom infrastructure from technical plans to required quality standards.
- Strong network commissioning skills, providing testing, troubleshooting, mentoring, and input on technical design.
- Advanced hands‑on capability across:
- Transmission systems: PDH, SDH, DWDM, optical.
- Structured cabling: copper and fibre installation and maintenance.
- Networking: WAN/LAN, IP, VoIP; testing at 1G/10G/40G/100G.
- Voice/Data/IP environments across public and private sectors.
- Experienced with multi‑vendor platforms (optical, routing, switching) and strong customer‑facing skills.
- Able to work under pressure, influence others, and manage workload effectively.
- Proficient with Microsoft 365; flexible and adaptable.
- Full valid driving licence.
