Transportation Engineer
Design and manage large-scale roadway projects. Review and approve designs for regulatory compliance. Coordinate technical content and ensure quality delivery. Responsibilities- Design and manage large-scale roadway projects.
- Review and approve designs for regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate technical content and ensure quality delivery.
- Meet with clients to understand and plan for project needs.
- Oversee project consistency, efficiency, and quality control.
- Prepare design calculations, cost estimates, and contract documents.
- Conduct field assessments and document existing conditions.
- Support proposal development and attend industry events.
- Mentor and supervise junior engineers, providing technical guidance.
- Professional engineer license.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
- 5-7 years of related experience with Illinois DOT projects.
- Experience in Open Roads Designer (ORD).
- Proficient in Civil 3D, Highway, Transportation, Traffic, and Drainage design.
- Expert knowledge of IDOT Design Manuals, Standards, Specifications, and Guidelines.
Skills & Qualifications
- Successful multidisciplinary team/task management or design lead experience.
- Proficient in 3D and 4D Computer‑Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software.
- Strong understanding of engineering design principles.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
- Excellent technical writing with the ability to develop work plans and document technical discussions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- In‑depth knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations.
- Familiar with industry design standards such as the NACTO.
This role is based in the Chicago office located on South Wacker, with a team of about 25 individuals in the transportation department. The position involves working with 36 project teams on a wide variety of major infrastructure projects, with a focus on phase 2 design. The work schedule is hybrid, requiring office presence 3 days a week. The office environment is upbeat and energetic, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

Pay & BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $94,000.00 – $ per year. Internal benefits highlight above‑average health benefits, company share, and long‑term path for ownership.
