Project Engineer, Highway – GFT

GFT is seeking a Project Engineer, Highway to join our Transportation Team in downtown Chicago, IL. This hybrid role requires regular attendance at our Chicago office.

What You’ll Do

• Assist in phase I and phase II roadway and bridge design projects.
• Prepare plans, quantity calculations, geometric design, pavement marking/signing, drainage design, traffic studies, traffic signal design, public involvement, and report writing.
• Write specifications, cost estimates, and other related tasks using Open Roads Designer, Micro Station, Geopak, and MS Office.
• Manage junior engineers and technicians under project manager guidance and complete tasks independently.

Required Experience

• Minimum 4–10 years of roadway, bridge, aviation, transit, and rail design experience.
• Experience with preliminary engineering, detailed plans, and specifications for Illinois DOT, Illinois Tollway, Chicago DOT, local counties, and federally funded projects.
• Illinois PE and Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Previous highway, drainage, construction inspection, traffic signal, and lighting experience is expected.
