Job DescriptionEntry-level Geologist (Chicago or Lisle, Illinois office) to assist with data management, site investigations and remediation. The successful candidate will gather and analyze geological, hydrogeological and geochemical data both in the field and office settings. Field activities include soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air and soil vapor sample collection, geological logging and interpretation, and oversight of subcontractors. Office activities involve preparation of investigation reports.
Position start date expected:
Early December 2025.
- Conduct environmental field work, including collecting soil, surface water, groundwater, and remediation system data; soil logging; and fluid level gauging.
- Oversee contractors conducting field surveys, drilling, well installation, development operations, and utility clearance for intrusive operations.
- Participate in health and safety team performing inspections, observations, and training.
- Prepare field documents, collect, process, and interpret field data.
- Support office tasks such as data entry, data analysis, report preparation, and maintenance of a records archive system.
- Collect and record data, compare results to relevant studies, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Travel to project locations, including driving and overnight stays.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
- Must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Ability to understand and supervise advancement of soil borings and monitoring wells.
- Experience in multiple site characterization, subsurface investigation, and remediation projects.
- Ability to assist with site conceptual models.
- Collect and evaluate environmental data in field and office settings.
- Prepare investigation reports and drawings.
- Technical report writing skills.
- Independent field work and leadership of field teams.
- Contractor oversight.
- Required to complete 40-hour HAZWOPER training or annual refresher.
- First Aid/CPR training and AECOM specific training.
- Travel up to 80% regionally and state-wide.
- Proficient with MS Word and MS Excel.
- Relocation assistance not available.

AECOM is hosting an exclusive, invitation-only hiring event in Chicago on November 20-21, 2025. Thursday evening mixer from 6-8 pm. Friday interviews at the Chicago office. Opportunity for college students graduating December 2025.
CompensationOffered rate based on education, qualifications, experience, and location. Range: $60,000 – $65,000 per year.
