Project Engineer – Transportation

Horner & Shifrin is seeking a full‑time Project Engineer for our Transportation business unit in the Illinois region. The successful candidate will assist and lead project teams, develop engineering solutions, and deliver comprehensive end products.

• Resolve engineering problems and tasks as assigned, seeking help from more experienced staff as needed.
• Perform transportation engineering analyses and calculations.
• Prepare and write engineering reports.
• Work as part of a team to complete general transportation engineering services for municipal, county, and state agencies.
• Assist in the preparation of feasibility studies and reports.
• Develop engineering plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E).

• Licensed Professional Engineer (preferred).
• Ability to lead, manage, and schedule staff to meet project needs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working with the Illinois Department of Transportation and local municipalities (preferred).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Proficient in Micro Station with Open Roads Designer/Geopak or AutoCAD with Civil 3D.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Background check required.

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.

Target salary range: $85,000 to $110,000, based on experience, skills, and location.
