Overview
CDM Smith's Environmental Services Group is seeking an Engineer, Scientist or Geologist with experience modeling contaminant transport through sediment caps and/or a working knowledge of CAD in remediation projects, combined with basic geotechnical engineering experience, for remediation projects located anywhere within the United States.
The candidate must have demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team on remediation projects for diverse clients including those in Federal and Public sectors. Candidates with more extensive experience may be considered for a higher grade level than what is proposed for this advertisement.
Responsibilities- Understand the scientific and engineering principles of modeling contaminant fate and transport through sediment caps in subaqueous systems. Experience with Cap Sim is preferred.
- Use CAD to develop drawings for contaminated sediment dredging and/or soil excavation projects, including the ability to follow direction from a senior engineer with minimal continual oversight.
- Perform slope stability modeling.
- Develop field sampling programs and perform data analyses to support conceptual site models, mass balances, and data-based understanding of fate and transport processes, including interpreting results from sediment cores and bathymetric surveys.
- Develop, calibrate, and apply numerical and/or desktop models.
- Evaluate feasibility of sediment remediation technologies and assist in developing sediment remediation designs for large contaminated sites involving multiple stakeholders.
- Serve as CDM Smith’s primary interface with clients on complex sediment tasks; assess and understand problems and communicate a technical strategy to the client.
- Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. 5 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. Equivalent additional directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Science or Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline. Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer).
