Job Description
Civil Engineer – Aviation, based in Chicago, IL. This role is ideal for a recent graduate interested in launching a career in airport and aviation infrastructure design, supporting airside and landside projects at commercial and general aviation airports. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of senior aviation engineers and project managers, contributing to the planning, design, and delivery of aviation-related civil engineering projects.
Assignments may include runway, taxiway, apron, terminal support infrastructure, and associated utility and drainage systems.
- Assist with civil engineering design tasks for aviation infrastructure, including runways, taxiways, aprons, grading, drainage, and utility systems
- Support preparation of engineering calculations, drawings, and technical documentation in accordance with FAA, state, and local standards
- Assist in the development of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for aviation projects
- Perform data collection, analysis, and interpretation using established engineering methods
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including structural, electrical, geotechnical, and environmental disciplines
- Support construction phase services, including review of submittals, RFIs, and participation in site visits as required
- Apply AECOM quality procedures and follow applicable aviation design standards and safety requirements
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- No prior professional experience required
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe
- Exposure to AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar civil design software
- Basic familiarity with FAA advisory circulars, airport design standards, or airfield pavement concepts
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Interest in aviation, airport operations, or infrastructure development
- This position does not include sponsorship for employment authorization
- Relocation assistance is not available for this role
Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $70,000 to $80,000.
