Lead Process Engineer – Chicago, Illinois

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and commission, qualification, and validation services for technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a dedicated Lead Process Engineer to join our talented team located near Chicago, Illinois.

Salary offered: $138,400 - $212,000, depending on experience, skill set, and education.

• Produce conceptual design deliverables such as Process Flow Diagrams and Material and Energy Balances.
• Estimate utility requirements for new manufacturing processes, design utilities generation, and distribution systems.
• Generate Process P&IDs (preferably on AutoCAD) that include controls strategy and CIP/SIP functions, if appropriate.
• Generate P&IDs for critical utility systems, such as WFI, USP Purified water, and Clean Steam.
• Perform engineering studies for expanding, improving, or automating existing facilities with limited supervision.
• Produce specifications and performance data sheets for process equipment and instrumentation.
• Use and help develop company design and production tools, including process simulation and smart P&IDs.
• Assume ownership of the process-related aspects of a portion of a large project or an entire small project, providing technical support to the design team.
• Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with clients and IPS design team members.

• 10+ years of engineering experience, 5+ years in process design, preferably in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Knowledge of cGMPs as they affect process design and equipment specification.

• Design and operations experience in pharmaceutical facilities, including biologic, vaccine, API, oral, and parenteral drug products.

• Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.
• Must possess the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
• Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Must be able to climb ladders as necessary.

• Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to varying working conditions.
• Must adhere to strict cleanroom gowning protocol.

• 5-20% travel, or as required by the assigned project.
• May be assigned to a client site for an extended period; overnight travel may be required.
• Must have access to reliable transportation and be able to travel and commute on a daily or routine basis.

• This position is safety-sensitive.
• The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research, or other non-administrative areas.
