Assistant Mechanical Engineer – Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (Chicago, IL, United States)
Salary / Pay PlanThe salary listed above is Step 1 in a structured pay plan. At 6 months of employment the salary will increase to Step 2: $91,062.92. At 18 months it will increase to Step 3: $96,924.10. There are 9 total steps for TAM 14 (view full pay plan). These increases are based on service time in the job classification and require a “Meets Standard” performance rating.
PromotionalExamination
This examination is open only to current District employees who meet the promotional requirements. No other applications will be considered. Applications will be accepted only during the designated filing period for this examination. Applications must be filed online through the District’s Online Employment Center trictjobs.org by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on the closing date.
Duties- Under immediate supervision, performs entry‑level mechanical engineering work in mechanical design, construction inspection, and plant maintenance or operation.
- May review the work of sub‑professional personnel.
- Possession of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- One year of service with the District as a Treatment Plant Operator I or Engineering Technician IV.
- Civil service status as a Treatment Plant Operator I or Engineering Technician IV, or civil service status as an Engineer Trainee.
- Training and experience evaluation (T&E) weighted 90%, efficiency rating 5%, seniority rating 5%.
- Minimum passing score on the T&E is 70% unless otherwise determined.
- Must achieve a passing score on each test to be placed on the eligible list.
Appointments will be made from an eligible list in three categories: A (Exceptionally Well Qualified), B (Well Qualified), and C (Qualified). Candidates in the highest category will be given first consideration. The eligible list has a duration of one year.
Veterans’ Preference: Veterans’ Preference points will be added to the scores of candidates who attain a passing score in all phases of the examination. Veterans’ Preference claim forms can be obtained through the District’s website. Once an employee receives a promotion from an eligible list on which he or she received Veterans’ Preference points, he or she will not be eligible for Veterans’ Preference points on any future promotional examinations.
Probationary period: One year (250 days worked).
