Senior Structural Engineer

We are representing an established engineering consultancy in the search for a Senior Structural Engineer to join its transportation team in Chicago, Illinois.

This is an opportunity for an experienced structural engineer to take a leading role in the design, management and delivery of bridge and highway structural projects, while also contributing to client relationships, team development and business growth.

The ideal candidate will bring 15+ years of relevant structural engineering experience, a strong background in bridge/highway structures, and an Illinois PE and SE license. Experience managing projects, teams, budgets and client relationships will be highly valued.

• Lead the design and delivery of bridge, highway and transportation structural projects.
• Manage project teams, schedules, budgets and resources through project delivery.
• Take a lead role in structural analysis, design and engineering calculations.
• Develop structural designs involving foundations, loading, structural response and connections.
• Conduct site investigations and evaluate existing structural conditions.
• Develop project timelines, cost estimates and resource requirements.
• Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, contractors and other project stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain relationships with DOTs, municipalities, contractors and other clients.
• Support construction activities, inspections and resolution of structural design issues.
• Review engineering work and ensure projects meet applicable codes, standards and quality requirements.
• Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation and project deliverables.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to engineers and other professionals.
• Work with leadership on business development, client growth and winning new work.
• Help identify opportunities for improving project delivery, quality and profitability.
• Contribute to the development of longer-term growth strategies within the transportation practice.

• 15+ years of relevant structural engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required;
  Master’s preferred.
• Illinois PE and SE licenses required.
• Strong experience in bridge/highway structural engineering and design.
• Proven experience leading structural engineering projects and technical teams.
• Experience managing project budgets, schedules and resources.
• Strong understanding of structural analysis, foundations, loading, connections and structural response.
• Experience working with DOTs, municipalities, contractors and other transportation stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects with limited supervision.
• Experience supporting construction, inspections and resolution of field/design issues.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience developing client relationships and supporting business development and pursuit activities.
• Previous experience mentoring and developing engineering professionals preferred.
