Highway Design Engineer

We are representing an established engineering consultancy in the search for a Senior Transportation Engineer to join its team and support a major infrastructure program in Chicago. This is an opportunity for an experienced roadway, highway or traffic engineer to become involved at the early stages of a significant infrastructure project, with a particular focus on Phase 1 engineering, feasibility and transportation planning.

The role would suit an engineer who enjoys working on projects before they reach detailed design and is interested in understanding the broader transportation requirements, feasibility and planning considerations that shape major infrastructure investments.

• Support Phase 1 engineering and transportation planning for a major infrastructure project.
• Contribute to feasibility studies, planning activities and early-stage project development.
• Evaluate roadway, highway and traffic considerations during the planning process.
• Analyze existing transportation conditions and help identify potential project impacts.
• Support the development and evaluation of potential transportation solutions.
• Contribute to technical reports, planning documentation and feasibility assessments.
• Work with multidisciplinary engineering and planning teams throughout project development.
• Apply engineering judgment to identify transportation constraints, opportunities and potential improvements.
• Support coordination with clients, agencies and other project stakeholders.
• Contribute technical expertise to projects from planning and feasibility through future design phases.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Background in roadway, highway or traffic engineering.
• Experience with or strong interest in Phase 1 engineering and early-stage project development.
• Experience in feasibility studies, transportation planning or preliminary engineering preferred.
• PTOE certification highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of transportation operations and how traffic, vehicles and roadway networks interact.
• Experience working on large-scale infrastructure projects preferred.
• Strong analytical, technical writing and communication skills.
• Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
• Interest in working on projects from the planning and feasibility stage, rather than solely detailed design.

This role would suit a PE-licensed Transportation / Roadway / Highway / Traffic Engineer who is interested in getting involved early in the development of a major infrastructure project.
