This is a hybrid position requiring in-office presence on Tuesday and Wednesday of each week. the AOA office is located in the Streeterville/Mag Mile area of downtown Chicago, IL.
JOB SUMMARYThe Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for managing various accounting functions and processes in accordance with GAAP principles for the month-end close for AOA and affiliates. Under the supervision of the Assistant Controller:
- Prepares and maintains Journal Entries, schedules and Reconciliations for month-end and year-end processing.
- Monthly financial reporting and related variance analysis and research for AOA departments and affiliated organizations.
- Support the preparation of the quarterly reports to the Finance committee and the Board of Trustees.
- Support the annual audits.
- Support the IRS tax form 990 filings.
- Help develop and maintain accounting systems and AOA/affiliates’ chart of accounts.
- Prepares monthly journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Prepares monthly payroll and benefits JEs and other entries for review by Assistant Controller. Potentially processing bi-weekly payroll.
- Create and maintain reports utilized for monthly financial reporting to the AOA departments.
- Reviews monthly internal financial statements with management personnel and research variances as needed.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports to AOA board-level committees.
- Maintain investment schedules to clearly reflect balances and activities for the month and year to date.
- Preparation of external audit and tax materials.
- Assist with the annual budgeting process as needed.
Education
:
Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in Accounting.
Experience
:
- 5+ years of GAAP-based accounting experience.
Licensure or Certification
: CPA Certification or CPA Candidate preferred

- Must be a self-starter and be able to function with minimal supervision
- Must have a critical mind: able to identify and clearly define issues, appropriate ways of solving problems using data gathered and make recommendations

- Possess time management and organizational skills
- Be able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Salary Range: $80,000 - $90,000 Annually
