Job Description

The Role

This role is part of the Finance team in Chicago and will be supporting both GAAP reporting and Statutory reporting. The main focus will be on accounting and reporting for the non-technical results and investment accounting. The level of this position is dependent on the knowledge and experience of the individual in both accounting and the insurance industry.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for reviewing non-technical journal entries and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly file for corporate team in London for submissions of technical and non-technical items.
  • Collaborate with FP&A team to ensure alignment of financial records with budgets
  • Prepares and reconciles investment activity from Clearwater Analytics and custodian bank statements
  • Prepares financial analysis of all non-technical balance sheet and income statement accounts on a monthly basis and brings errors to the attention of the accounting manager.
  • Responsible for preparing the statutory main financial statement pages, investment pages and notes.
  • Assisting in coordinating audit requests and PBC schedules.
  • Responsible for understanding and interpreting current and new GAAP/IFRS/STAT pronouncements and how they may differ
  • Work with Actuarial on IBNR and loss reporting
Other
  • Responsible for various ad hoc requests
  • Assisting with other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Various projects as assigned.
Skills and experience
  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in Accounting preferred, CPA is desirable but not required
  • Insurance experience
  • 4-6 years minimum of Accounting professional work experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office packages to an intermediate level for Excel
  • Experience with statutory reporting software
  • Proactive approach to work - able to demonstrate initiative, flexibility, adaptability, efficiency, accuracy and thoroughness
  • Ability to interact and communicate at all levels both within and outside the organization
  • Understanding of other team members' deadlines and ability to meet own
