Job Summary

The Gynecology Medical Assistant performs activities that enhance patient care and contribute to the efficiency and organization of the practice. Within their scope of clinical competence and under the supervision of the physician or provider, the Medical Assistant provides clinical care, assists physicians, nurses, and other staff, and performs administrative duties. Responsibilities include supporting smooth patient flow, accurate documentation, and a positive patient experience.

This role requires professionalism, attention to detail, and familiarity with gynecologic procedures, patient care protocols, and office operations. The MA is also cross‑trained to support front desk duties as needed. All duties are performed with the highest level of confidentiality, quality of care, and service toward patients, staff, physicians, and guests, and in adherence to office policies outlined in the employee handbook.

General Accountabilities /

Key Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate professional behavior and maintain a high standard of conduct in the workplace.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations and procedures.
  • Properly clean and sterilize treatment rooms and equipment between patients to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Interview patients to obtain accurate medical histories and record vital statistics and test results in patient medical files.
  • Perform routine screening tests, including height/weight measurements and blood pressure checks.
  • Perform clinical procedures such as phlebotomy, injections, suture removal, and dressing changes.
  • Properly clean, sterilize, and maintain medical instruments and equipment; dispose of contaminated supplies and sharps according to protocol. Daily at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain clinical supplies and equipment; provide management with inventory lists for purchase.
  • Daily maintaining clinic cleanliness, including garbage disposal, restocking supplies and toiletries, and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Assist physicians and providers during examinations by preparing and handing over instruments and materials, when needed during procedures.
  • Navigate EMR and other office technology efficiently, including obtaining and uploading patient consent forms, order forms, results, and documentation.
  • Conduct insurance benefit verifications and assist with prior authorizations.
  • Order medical devices and follow up with specialty pharmacies as directed.
  • Educate patients on procedures, medications, and follow‑up care.
  • Schedule patient appointments pursuant to provider protocol; coordinate follow‑ups and referrals.
  • Screen incoming phone calls, facilitate appropriate communication, and prioritize based on urgency.
  • Perform administrative duties as needed, including answering phones, emails, faxes, and patient portal messages.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement activities, continuing education programs, and all assigned meetings.
  • Cross‑trained to support front desk duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to facilitate efficient medical care.
  • Ability to foster teamwork and maintain a positive, collaborative office culture.
Job Qualifications
  • Education:

    High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience:

    2 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Licenses/Certifications:

    CPR and first aid certification required; certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred.
  • Knowledge of Athena One EMR System preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to change and accept constructive feedback.
  • Must travel between offices based on clinic needs.

  • Detail‑oriented with a demonstrated commitment to accuracy and quality. Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment.
