PEER Services (peer services.org) is a leading nonprofit provider of community-based substance use prevention and treatment services for Evanston, Maine, New Trier, Niles and Northfield Townships, and the north side of Chicago. The Adult and Adolescent Staff Therapist is a member of the SUD Treatment Program, and reports to the SUD Treatment Program Director. The Adult and Adolescent Staff Therapist will oversee the USPO program and work primarily with clients referred through our partnership with the US Courts to provide substance use treatment services to individuals on probation and pre-trial. They will provide individual psychotherapy, group therapy, and support services, including appropriate case management functions by the client’s treatment plan and goals.

Since this position will work primarily with individuals involved with the justice system, we are seeking a candidate with a strong-interest and demonstrated ability to work with this population. This position requires evening availability.

Job Duties

  • Provide individual and group psychotherapy and related case management services
  • Complete timely, accurate, and appropriate documentation for treatment planning, progress notes, drug test results, and discharges.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Probation Office (USPO) program requirements, including accurate documentation, timely maintenance of client records, and adherence to established treatment expectations.
  • Attend and participate in USPO specific meetings/trainings and provide USPO support to other clinicians serving USPO clients.
  • Assist SUD Treatment Program Director with USPO site visits and audits.
  • Understand and follow the highest ethical standards and confidentiality laws.
  • Ensure the SUD Treatment Program Director is kept abreast of all aspects of the program and services. Offer suggestions that support program development and improved services.
  • Build and maintain strong, positive, collaborative relationships with PEER staff, supervisors, and program partners.
  • Maintain current knowledge of substance use treatment and interventions by participating in ongoing continued education and training opportunities.
  • Meet program and professional goals as defined in collaboration with the SUD Treatment Program Director. Maintain licensure and certification and complete all trainings required by funders and other regulatory bodies.
  • Support PEER Services fundraising and community events. Attend and participate in organizational, program, and team meetings and activities.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by the SUD Treatment Program Director.
  • Maintain a 65% caseload

Classification, Compensation, Work Schedule, and Benefits:

  • This is a regular, full-time, exempt, 40 hours per week position.
  • Compensation starts at $53K annually, with higher compensation available for candidates with additional experience and qualifications.
  • Work hours are flexible and based on the needs of the program and staff availability. Option to work remote one day per week after trial period.
  • Clinicians receive weekly supervision towards their licensure.
  • Demonstrated ability and strong interest in working with clients involved in criminal justice system
  • Understanding and a commitment to Harm Reduction and Trauma-Informed Care.
  • Working knowledge of alcohol and other drug pharmacology and treatment, and use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy framework.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Electronic Health Records.
  • Demonstrated familiarity of Rule 2060, a plus.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable and able to adjust work schedules, as needed.
