Base pay range: $28.05/hr – $42.10/hr.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate customer satisfaction skills within the department and hospital as defined by Advocate’s system goals.
  • Serve as patient advocate to ensure patients and customers’ needs are met promptly and efficiently, individualizing each patient’s plan of care.
  • Resolve patients and customers concerns immediately using the defined service recovery process.
  • Utilize appropriate referrals and chain of command to resolve ongoing patient/customer complaints (e.g., patient grievance process).
  • Maintain positive relationships with all customers (patients, significant others, physicians, and associates).
  • Review Patient Satisfaction data and participate in development of the team’s action plan for improvement in satisfaction.
  • Assist in providing quality patient care in a manner which is patient‑focused, technically appropriate, and cost effective.
  • Work under the direct supervision of a registered nurse in accordance with the Standards of Practice and the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
  • Establish and maintain a sterile field, a safe patient care environment, and appropriate supplies/equipment for the operative procedure.
  • Perform duties in the scrub role as assigned (prepare sterile field, comply with departmental policy regarding specimens, counts, and instrument disposition, maintain sterile field and boundaries, act as preceptor, maintain on‑call availability, assist in emergency situations, maintain safe work environment, maintain education records and timecard, keep competencies up to date).
  • Verify instrument/supply/equipment availability and readiness per physician preference card; read scrub tips; assist in opening sterile supplies and instruments; assist with cleanup and turnover; use supplies efficiently to reduce waste.
  • Demonstrate self‑direction in maintaining professional skills, complete assignments/projects independently, participate in unit/hospital committees and projects, and foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality, use guest‑relation techniques, perform other related duties as assigned, and pursue continuous professional growth.
  • Apply and maintain hospital policies and procedures, including CPR certification, safety and infection control, up‑to‑date licensure, and unit‑based certification standards.
  • Share knowledge and experience concerning surgical procedures, precept other staff, promote patient safety, and support accreditation requirements (10 CEU annually).
  • Contribute to innovation, improvement initiatives, cost containment, productivity and staffing flexibility, and offer suggestions to optimize customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) program or equivalent experience.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technician.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to independently perform scrub duties.
Physical & Work Conditions
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, life‑threatening disease, and radiation.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting (lifting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally, 25–50 pounds frequently, and 10–20 pounds constantly).
  • Ability to cooperate and work well with others.
  • Ability to communicate with mask on and not facing others.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with established time constraints.
  • Ability to work designated shifts including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to assume on‑call responsibility.
