Malcolm X College is seeking a Part Time Staff Psychologist for the Wellness Center Department.

The community college system’s more than 3,500 faculty and staff serve more than 60,000 students annually at seven colleges and five satellite sites.

The City Colleges of Chicago (CCC) Wellness Centers provide counseling, case management, and other social services to support students in maintaining their personal well-being and achieving their academic goals.

Located at each of the seven colleges, Wellness Centers provide best-practices mental health and psycho-social services to students, faculty, and staff including: crisis intervention, case management with linkage to community-based resources and public aid programs; individual counseling, support groups, evaluation for learning disabilities, wellness education and outreach; and consultation and training for faculty and staff.

Reporting to a Clinical Director - Wellness Center and under general supervision, the Staff Psychologist-Wellness Center (PT Exempt) provides a range of counseling and case management services to students, faculty, and staff. Participates in the areas of clinical services, graduate-level training program, wellness initiatives, and daily operations. Has primary clinical supervision of assigned graduate-level trainees and collaboratively participates in the group training of all graduate-level trainees participating in the Clinical Training Program.

Contributes to the best-practices operations of the Wellness Center and participates in promoting a holistic plan of health and wellness initiatives for CCC students. Performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • May be assigned by the Clinical Director – Wellness Center to provide as-needed day-to-day direction of clinical activities and monitoring of all trainee services provided. May be assigned to address administrative-level time-sensitive concerns, inter-department meetings, or requested consultations.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of evidence-based and best practices initiatives and services.
  • Assists in identifying and developing additional clinical competency training materials for graduate-level trainees.
  • Contributes to the ongoing development of the training program, including the recruitment, interviewing, and monitoring of the graduate-level trainees.
  • Provides doctoral-level clinical supervision to graduate-level trainees.
  • Supervises doctoral-level trainees in psychological assessments and report writing. Conduct assessments when necessary.
  • Participates in triage of walk-in clients or crisis counseling or services. Meets with walk-in clients to assess their immediate or emergency needs and provides crisis counseling and intervention services as needed or delegates appropriately to clinical staff or graduate-level trainees.
  • Provides referrals to appropriate health and social service agencies for additional services as required.
  • Conducts best practices crisis assessment and intervention and arranges emergency psychiatric assessment, as needed.
  • Provides individual and group psychotherapy and case management to a diverse student population across a broad range of presenting issues.
  • Provides short-term counseling and coaching to clients to address problems, develop coping mechanisms and skills to deal with issues of stress, time management, and organization.
  • Serves as a consultant to college staff and faculty for student development issues, behavioral threat assessment, classroom behavioral management, and the overall behavioral health of the college community.
