Temporary, 3-month W-2 position with the possibility of extension depending on funding, program needs and individual performance.

Reports to: Mental Health Court Manager

Office

Location:

224 W Hill St Suite 410, Chicago, IL; required in-office or in-court minimum of 3 days per week (hybrid work policy subject to change). This role requires commuting to various courthouses within the Chicagoland area, which may include courthouses located in Bridgeview, Maywood, or Markam, IL as well as supporting participants with their case management needs in the community.

Schedule:

Monday-Friday, 09:00 AM - 05:00 PM. Ability to flex time as appropriate. No regular weekend/evenings/holiday coverage needed.

NAMI Chicago seeks to fill gaps in Chicago's mental health system, with an intentional emphasis on serving underrepresented populations and breaking down barriers to care.

Responsibilities
  • Provide intensive case management services for individuals participating in adult mental health treatment court.
  • Act as liaison between treatment providers and the criminal justice system, balancing the integrated treatment needs of participants, the mandates of the criminal justice system, and the appropriateness of community-based treatment and recovery supports.
  • Provide screening and clinical assessments; case planning; ongoing linkage to substance use disorder treatment, mental health treatment, and other needed ancillary services.
  • Monitor individuals involved in the mental health court as well as advocate for their needs.
  • Provide support, information, and referrals to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis or severe mental illness and those trying to help them.
  • Partner with providers across Chicago to advocate for the needs of those we encounter and ensure appropriate connection to needed services.
  • Maintain intake notes, agency resource records, and documentation using NAMI Chicago’s database system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving underrepresented and vulnerable populations, including social and racial/ethnic minorities as well as those living with mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders.
  • Proven record of success working with a diverse environment regarding race, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, and gender.
  • Exhibits sensitivity, empathy regarding human service issues and projects a non-judgmental attitude towards those requiring assistance.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to set priorities, organize time efficiently, and handle multiple demands.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to travel to court in Cook County. This work will regularly be performed at court locations that house adult mental health courts (approximately 2 days of travel to and from courthouses per week).
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or other related fields.
  • Two or more years experience working with people living with mental illness in a community mental health agency, hospital, or other setting.
  • Knowledge of case management resources in the community.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and database management.

Annual Salary Range: $56,000 - $63,000/year
