Position: Recovery Room Nurse - Near North

Recovery Room Nurse – Near North Base Pay Range

$43.00/hr - $43.00/hr

Essential Functions
  • Provide nursing care to patients in the recovery room in accordance with all Planned Parenthood of Illinois policies and protocols, OSHA/CLIA regulations.
  • Assist providers with emergencies during clinic, screen patients with medical problems, and train staff on medical emergencies.
  • Participate in the follow‑up of abortion complications, achieving an abortion medical occurrence rate of 1% or less where applicable.
  • Monitor medications, crash cart, inventory and logs, ensuring proper functioning of equipment.
  • Accept individual and joint responsibility for health center efforts to achieve annual plans, abortion visits of 3 hours or less, and the PPFA defined abortion occurrence rate of 1% or less.
  • Participate in meeting fiscal revenue, expense and contribution margin targets.
  • Understand and practice a market and customer‑oriented approach to health care delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with all organizational quality assurance guidelines, OSHA and CLIA regulations.
  • Demonstrate commitment to PPIL core values of access, activism, care, confidentiality, diversity, excellence, integrity, respect, self‑determination, and stewardship.
Other Responsibilities
  • Assist and monitor patients in the recovery room (vital signs, medication dispensing, fluids, nutrition, after‑care instructions, birth‑control information, and reporting of post‑abortion complications).
  • Assist abortion providers in the procedure room during medical emergencies.
  • Handle “emergency” patient calls, documenting and following up as delegated to licensed clinical staff.
  • Screen clients with medical problems prior to abortions with the Chief Medical Officer or Associate Medical Directors.
  • Monitor controlled substances and crash cart medications, keeping daily logs per policies.
  • Participate in inventory of medications, recovery room supplies, and anesthesia supplies on‑site.
  • Ensure appropriate follow‑up is initiated and updated per PPIL protocols.
  • Update documentation in the adverse events tracker in collaboration with the health center manager.
  • Maintain current knowledge of family‑planning methods, abortion issues, technology, PPIL services, protocols, policies, and procedures, providing feedback for training and education.
  • Collaborate with the Health Center Manager, Regional Directors, and the Procedural Abortion and Sedation Services Clinical Director on day‑to‑day operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to sit, walk, talk, read, see and hear; use hands and fingers to type, handle, or feel; and reach. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable those with disabilities to perform these functions.

Supervisor: Procedural Abortion and Sedation Services Clinical Director

Status: Full‑time. Non‑exempt from overtime provisions.

Schedule: Tuesday‑Saturday

Qualifications

Education: Registered Nurse licensed in Illinois with active BLS and ACLS certification at all times.

Experience: Experience in an OB/GYN related field is preferred but not required. Spanish speaking is preferred but not required.

Professional and Personal Qualities: Commitment to efficient customer‑oriented service and operating goals of Planned Parenthood of Illinois; willingness to collaborate in a team approach; willingness to pursue additional training as a supervised sedation professional when proficiency is achieved.
