We are looking for new on-call team members to join us working as a Crisis Services Counselor at our new Crisis Recovery Center. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the expanding crisis services at the DuPage County Health Department!

Located in our new Crisis Recovery Center on the DuPage County Campus in Wheaton, Crisis Services provides 24/7 crisis mental health services to county residents experiencing psychiatric crises or needing support for mental illness symptoms. In this on-call position, you will be required to work at least 3 shifts per month with evening and weekend availability.

  • Provides emergency and crisis intervention services to individuals and families seeking services through our Crisis Recovery Center.
  • Conducts crisis evaluations on-site.
  • Support individuals on the Adult Mental Health Unit and Youth Mental Health Unit who are experiencing a mental health crisis through crisis intervention, crisis stabilization, and de-escalation.
  • Maintains required training, licensure and/or certification.
  • Consults with staff concerning client and program issues and provides other case management services as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with community providers
  • Completion of required documentation within established time frames
  • Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to client privacy laws.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of other ethnic groups and cultures.
  • Adheres to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality.
  • Use of an Electronic Client Record, and additional call management software
  • Demonstrates independent judgment.
  • Participates in emergency response activities as assigned.

Candidates for consideration require either a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field and two years of experience working with chronically mentally ill population; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Attendance at our paid HR new hire orientation from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm is required. This role requires you to have a valid driver’s license along with your own personal vehicle that is reliable to drive while working in this role.
