Description
The Staffing Nurse Coordinator reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Staffing Nurse Coordinator is unique and essential to the care of the patient. The nurse demonstrates that unique and essential function through the framework for nursing practice and facilitates the delivery of nursing and ancillary staff for immediate support to the patient care areas.
This role has two components: one a supportive role in the staffing office where clinical knowledge will inform staffing decisions and the second working at the bedside in order to maintain clinical knowledge and expertise.
ResponsibilitiesCentral Staffing Office functions
- Utilize clinical knowledge of medical complexity to appropriately allocate staff or night shift where resources and leadership are most limited
- Leverage clinical documentation in Epic to optimize patient assignment and resource allocation
- Coordinates staff schedules and assignments every shift and floats within the on-line scheduling system, including assignments of the safety aide cases throughout the organization
- Notifies Float Pool employees of scheduling assignments up to two hours prior to the start time of their shifts
- Communicates with Unit Charge Nurses/Clinical Coordinators regarding staffing requests every shift, and more often, as necessary
- Collaborates with Unit Charge Nurses/Clinical Coordinators for RN assignments to optimize skill mix on unit and communicates appropriate float pool assignments based on medication and device training
- Continuously updates ATR system with floated employees and/or employee call-offs (both Float Pool and employees in Patient Care areas) and notifies Manager/Charge Nurse/Clinical Coordinator/Unit
- Emails organizational staffing documents to leadership every shift
- Actively participates in staffing and patient throughput meetings each shift
- Escalates staffing concerns and/or inability to meet organizational staffing requests based on approved patient care ratios (Float Pool Clinical Coordinators, Manager(s), Hospital Operations Administrators, Patient Throughput Coordinators, and/or other leaders, as needed)
- Maintains sensitive, confidential employee information
- Creates and/or maintains spreadsheets of organizational staffing data including bi-weekly staffing dashboards
- Oversees data entry integrity and auditing on daily basis including auditing safety aide cases per hospital guidelines
- Develops and maintains Women’s Health floating guide, resource nurse task list, and provides tools to units and staff as needed
- Maintains and utilizes a Float Pool staff floating guide in conjunction with Education Coordinators
- Reinforces suicide room setup policy when new safety aides are initiated
- Delivers exceptional customer service and ensures tasks are completed in a timely manner
Clinical Nurse Responsibilities
