Job DescriptionThe Radiographer – CT reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards. The Radiographer performs computed tomography and related procedures to generate sectional anatomic images for interpretation by a licensed practitioner, while providing appropriate patient care and ensuring safety.
Responsibilities- Performs computed tomography procedures according to protocols established by radiologists.
- Evaluates procedure requests and assesses patients to determine appropriate protocol and method of application.
- Employs imaging systems, accessory devices, and patient positioning techniques to generate quality images.
- Cares for patients throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards.
- Participates in lifting and transporting patients to and from imaging devices.
- Evaluates images, applies corrective action if needed, and references appropriate materials for clarification.
- Provides patient education before, during, and after procedures to reduce anxiety and enhance comfort.
- Performs procedures in accordance with safe radiation safety practices as determined by the Illinois Emergency Management Administration.
- Performs preliminary interpretation by applying independent judgment to expedite intervention by the radiologist if necessary.
- Notifies physicians of changes in patient condition or unique imaging characteristics.
- Maintains flexibility to accommodate daily schedules and high productivity.
- Collaborates with Resource Coordinators and Technical Coordinators to learn and become proficient in new procedures and software.
- Documents imaging procedures manually and/or electronically for accurate charging, patient tracking, and film file tracking.
- Sends acquired images to the PACS system correctly using the appropriate accession numbers.
- Monitors supplies in imaging rooms, reorders items as needed, and maintains a clean environment.
- Reports equipment failures or irregularities to supervisor or technical coordinator promptly.
- Distributes radiology outpatient surveys to patients for self‑evaluation and to enhance the Best Patient Experience.
- Provides imaging services of optimum quality, productivity, and customer service.
- Collects data to support measurement and tracking components of quality management.
- Participates in formal and informal process improvement and problem solving.
- Identifies quality issues and brings them to the attention of the Manager, Resource Coordinator, and Quality Committee.
- Ensures continuity of care through effective interactions with other departments (off‑site facilities, emergency department, registration, Feinberg‑General Radiology, radiology reading rooms).
- Acts as a role model for new hires, fostering longevity in the position.
- Participates in departmental in‑service programs and takes an active role in their development and delivery over time.
- Maintains competencies and complies with continuing education requirements of credentialing agencies.
- Graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology, Applied Science, Radiography, or certificate of completion in a radiography program (hospital sponsored).
- Certification in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
- Active license with Illinois Emergency Management Department of Nuclear Safety.
