Position Description – What The Role Entails: The Engagement Specialist works as a member of a multi‑disciplinary team providing primarily mobile crisis response services. The team assesses immediate crisis situations, meets clients where they are, determines stabilization options, and provides support, drawing on personal experience in recovery from mental health or substance use issues. The role is 80 % mobile crisis response, including 24/7 call‑line work focused on evenings and weekends, and 20 % within the overall mental health program.

- Assist in de‑escalation of clients experiencing a mental health crisis through engagement and coordination with team members.
- Establish rapport, share experiences, and strengthen engagement with clients throughout all Crisis Programs.
- Volunteer willingness to self‑disclose personal lived experience in mental health or substance use recovery for the benefit of clients.
- Role‑model positive recovery behaviors with clients.
- Provide skill building and case management to clients with identified needs.
- Participate in team meetings to assess clients’ progress.
- Take shifts responding to referrals on the 24/7 crisis line, prioritizing response within 90 minutes of a mobile crisis call.
- Provide mobile crisis response services, including assistance with the IMCAT, Crisis Safety Plan and referral, per grant and licensure obligations.
- Follow up appropriately for crisis stabilization, case management, or warm handoff to another referral.
- Participate in outreach activities necessary to offer services, engage participation in a non‑coercive manner, and increase opportunities for professional development.
- Develop, maintain and establish linkages and relationships with community‑based organizations.
- Advocate for clients and the agency within broader health and social service systems.
- Plan and document community engagement efforts in required formats.
- Some services may be in the community per specific grant requirements.
- Conduct and document a holistic, trauma‑informed, relevant and compliant Integrated Assessment (e.g., IM+CANS – certification required).
- Evaluate clients for risk of harm and respond appropriately, including development of safety plans.
- Utilize and/or assist clients in completing other metric‑based evaluations to assess symptomology.
- In collaboration with client and support network, develop and document an integrated, individualized treatment plan based on the assessment.
- Review the client’s Integrated Assessment and Treatment Plan (IATP) as needed.
- Focus on case management and community support recovery needs of each client.
- Provide appropriate behavioral health services (including for co‑occurring substance use disorders) using evidence‑based skills, conflict resolution and crisis intervention.
- Coordinate care with internal and external service providers as appropriate.
- Monitor to ensure client health and safety needs are met.
- Document services within 48 hours of delivery.
- Participate in regular supervision from an RFS LPHA, with at least one hour of documented supervision per month.
