Phlebotomist - Inpatient, Full‑Time, Nights at Northwestern Memorial Hospital

The salary range for this position is $19.81 – $25.75 per hour. Placement within the range depends on experience and internal equity. For union positions, placement follows the collective bargaining agreement.

• Perform phlebotomy and other laboratory specimen collections per age‑related standards.
• Demonstrate the AIDET model and optimize patient safety.
• Receive and review physician orders; enter accurate lab test orders.
• Communicate with patients and provide appropriate post‑phlebotomy care.
• Process specimens promptly—labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and packaging for transport.
• Record refrigerator temperatures and QC/QA data; report concerns to the Corrective Action Log.
• Maintain equipment; follow up on orders, manifests, and specimen status.
• Notify laboratory and/or physician of specimen procurement issues.
• Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to biohazard waste procedures.
• Perform lab‑related clerical duties such as order entry, verification, patient information retrieval, inventory management, and equipment sanitation.
• Use department resources efficiently and help reduce costs.
• Complete continuing education and competency assessments.
• Show teamwork and assist colleagues professionally.
• Apply critical thinking and sound judgment to solve challenging situations.
• Comply with ethical business practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy certification from a nationally recognized organization, training from a phlebotomy school or medical institution, one or more years of phlebotomy experience in a healthcare setting, or CMA certification.

• Experience phlebotomizing a broad range of patient types.
• Experience processing lab specimens, including centrifugation.
• Familiarity with medical EMR systems.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
