American Traveler seeks a Certified Surgical Technologist for a Level I trauma center OR, requiring CST certification and 3+ years of trauma or teaching hospital experience.

Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a Level I or Level II trauma center or large teaching hospital
  • Strong experience required in Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Vascular, and Trauma services
  • BLS certification required
  • CST certification through NBSTSA or NCCT required
  • IL license required in hand upon submission (license required if applicable)
  • Two professional references from supervisors within the past 2 years required prior to start
  • Proof of COVID vaccination required, booster not required
  • International candidates must have SSN/SSC finalized (not pending) prior to submission
Responsibilities
  • Level I Trauma Center operating room setting
  • Provides support across multiple surgical services including Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Vascular, and Trauma
  • Day shift schedule, 5x8 hours from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM
  • No block scheduling and no special scheduling requests permitted
  • Every other weekend requirement (2 weekends per month)
  • No on-call requirements
  • Uses Cerner charting system
  • Mandatory float facility - clinicians required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including to units outside primary competency with team-based support
  • Perform surgical technologist duties across a wide range of specialties including General Surgery, Gynecology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Neuro Surgery, Orthopedics, Urology, Thoracic, and Robotics procedures
  • Maintain competency in aseptic technique, sterilization/disinfection, sharps safety, and specimen handling
  • Participate in Universal Protocol (time out) procedures for all cases
  • May float to other Cook facilities within 50 miles of home facility, with notification as little as 2 hours before shift start
  • Refusal to float may result in assignment cancellation
  • RTO limited to 5 days maximum with no more than 2 consecutive days, no weekend RTO, and no holiday RTO (including day before or after a holiday)
  • Returning resources must undergo full recredentialing and reattend orientation regardless of contract break length
  • Lab work must be completed within 72 hours of accepting the assignment
  • Local candidates accepted within 75 miles of the facility
