Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine as a Sterile Processing Technician II in the Central Sterile Processing Department . This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
Essential Job Functions- Cleans and decontaminates instruments, trays, supplies, and equipment according to established procedures
- Operates sterilization and decontamination equipment, including washers, sonic cleaners, and sterilizers
- Assembles instrument trays and peel packs with proper identification, wrapping, labeling, and sterilization method
- Monitors and documents sterilization loads, including biological and chemical testing results
- Identifies and removes defective or unsafe instruments and reports issues to leadership
- Stocks sterile storage areas and maintains appropriate inventory levels
- Prepares and delivers case carts based on surgical schedules and preference cards
- Transports clean and soiled equipment between Sterile Processing and procedural areas
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of all work areas and equipment
- Participates in quality improvement activities and required departmental training
- Assists in training and onboarding of new staff
- Adheres to all safety, infection control, and confidentiality standards
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Sterile Processing Certification (CRCST or CSPDT) required within 18 months of employment
- Knowledge of surgical instruments, hospital equipment, and medical terminology
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to respond effectively to urgent and emergency supply needs
- Ability to lift and move items over 30 lbs and stand for extended periods
- One year of experience in Central Sterile Processing
- Previous hospital-based sterile processing experience
- Basic computer skills and experience with instrument tracking systems
