$50 $ 75 / hour (DOE)

Role Summary

Were hiring a Chicago-based Employment Attorney or HR Legal Consultant to join our growing team on a flexible, project-based contract. You will be our go-to legal expert for the market, supporting a region rich in behavioral health innovation, Medicaid-funded services, and human-centered clinics.

You’ll work mostly remotely and step in only when needed, with full autonomy. This is an ideal opportunity for a solo attorney, boutique firm partner, or HR-versed legal consultant looking to make an impact in a mission-driven, high-growth firm.

Responsibilities
  • Review and draft policies, contracts, handbooks, and compliance SOPs
  • Advise on employee investigations, performance plans, and risk mitigation
  • Guide legal decisions involving FLSA, ADA, EEOC, FMLA, contractor classification, and Chicago-specific laws
  • Draft and review legal documents (NDAs, non-competes, severance, arbitration agreements)
  • Join high-level internal or client meetings when legal expertise is required
  • Monitor labor law changes in the areaand advise leadership accordingly
Requirements
  • JD and active law license in Illinois
  • 5+ years of employment law experience, preferably supporting small businesses, healthcare, or nonprofits
  • Familiarity with Medicaid, behavioral health providers, or trauma-informed HR a plus
  • Must be comfortable operating independently as a 1099 contractor
Compensation & Perks
  • $50 to $75 / hour depending on experience and engagement scope
