Job SummaryThe Digital Repository Manager works with the Digitization Unit of the University of Chicago Library and the OCHRE Data Service of the Forum for Digital Culture, Division of the Arts & Humanities, to analyze workflows, design, implement, test, maintain, modify, and document software applications to support the University of Chicago Library Digital Repository and UChicago
Node, a joint project of the University Library and the Division of the Arts & Humanities.
- Participates in designing and implementing Library Digital Repository services, including software architecture, development (computer programming) and documentation; quality assurance; analyzing and automating workflows; systems operation; file migration; generation and checking of technical metadata consistent with best practices in the field of digital preservation to ensure data integrity.
- Parses data (digital files) and metadata (information about those files) from the Digitization Unit using the BagIT specification maintained by the Library of Congress into the Oxford Common File Layout (OCFL) used by the Library Digital Repository.
- Ensures Library Digital Repository data integrity and control in accordance with the National Digital Stewardship Alliance, Levels of Digital Preservation, Level 3.
- Automates workflows involving the Library Digital Repository, the Digitization Unit, and the OCHRE Data Service.
- Develop and supports systems that provide access to information resources.
- Installs, evaluates, and tests software.
- Documents workflows, configurations, and technical processes.
- Researches, evaluates, and implements new technologies.
- Participates in national and international digital library initiatives.
- Leads in the development of new systems, features, and tools. Solves complex problems and identifies opportunities for technical improvement and performance optimization. Reviews and tests code to ensure appropriate standards are met.
- Utilizes in-depth technical knowledge of existing and emerging technologies, including public cloud offerings from Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.
