Role OverviewSargent & Lundy is a leading consulting engineering firm specializing in the power and energy sectors. We are looking for a driven AI Solutions Developer to join our innovative technology team, developing real-world AI applications that support our clients and internal operations.
As an AI Solutions Developer you will contribute to the research, design, and implementation of AI-driven solutions across our business, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, transform business challenges into intelligent systems, and play a key role in operational efficiency and technology adoption.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the research, design, and end‑to‑end development of AI solutions and software applications for internal and client‑facing needs
- Build, fine‑tune, and maintain machine learning models using Tensor Flow, PyTorch, or scikit‑learn
- Develop production‑grade code for automation, analytics, and user interfaces, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability
- Apply software development practices: source control with Git, code reviews, documentation, modular design, and coding standards
- Implement robust automated testing (unit, integration, system) for AI and software solutions
- Participate in agile sprint planning and collaborate across functions to align releases with business needs
- Contribute to the selection, integration, and long‑term maintenance of cloud‑based AI services, prioritizing security and performance
- Work closely with engineers, analysts, and IT to identify business problems solvable through AI or software enhancement
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications, develop project plans, and iterate prototypes or proofs‑of‑concept
- Serve as a bridge between technical and non‑technical teams, helping stakeholders understand how solutions deliver business value
- Educate non‑technical users on AI, software capabilities, best practices, and responsible technology use
- Maintain high standards in source code management, branching, merging, and documentation following SDLC
- Ensure data quality for model training and software features, implementing validation checks and monitoring systems
- Support responsible AI principles: transparency, data privacy, bias mitigation, and continuous performance validation
- Design and implement automation solutions (RPA, scripts, workflow tools) to increase productivity and reliability
- Share best practices, mentor colleagues, and stay current on AI, cloud, and software engineering trends
- Support leadership in strategic planning through technical insights from prototypes and production deployments
- Work in a hybrid schedule: 3 days in Chicago office and 2 days remote
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field
- 2+ years of experience developing and deploying AI/ML solutions and production software
- Proficiency with Tensor Flow, PyTorch, scikit‑learn, and Python
- Familiarity with Git, branching, code review, and collaborative codebases
- Experience writing and maintaining automated tests and troubleshooting software
- Exposure to agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and CI/CD practices
- Basic experience deploying cloud services/APIs for AI workloads (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Understanding of the ML workflow: data prep, training, evaluation, deployment
- Strong attention to detail and proactive problem‑solving skills
- Excellent communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences
- Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and collaborate in multidisciplinary teams
