About The Department: IT Services at the University of Chicago delivers secure, reliable, and innovative technology solutions that enable excellence in research, teaching, and operations. The Enterprise Applications and Services team partners with academic divisions and administrative units to implement modern platforms, advance data-informed decision making, and continuously improve the digital experience for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners.

Job Summary: The Senior Business Analyst partners with business and technology teams to deliver solutions that drive organizational goals. This role leads requirements gathering, process analysis, and solution design, ensuring alignment with business needs. The Senior BA oversees testing and implementation readiness, provides actionable insights, and fosters collaboration across stakeholders to enable successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a key member of the University Systems team, providing functional-level support for the University's core applications.
  • Perform business analysis, requirements gathering, testing, defect management and remediation.
  • Work with stakeholders to understand their business objectives.
  • Document and conduct gap analysis between current and future state of business processes.
  • Evaluate business processes, anticipate requirements, uncover areas for improvement and recommend solutions.
  • Maintain business process documentation throughout the SDLC of the project.
  • Conduct meetings and presentations to share ideas and findings.
  • Lead meetings with guidance from program management or senior management, distributing meeting minutes and action items.
  • Lead and coordinate requirement gathering sessions with appropriate teams.
  • Plan and facilitate workshops/interviews to identify, analyze, and document business requirements and translate them into business plans/solutions.
  • Prepare and deliver client presentations.
  • Act as a liaison between business stakeholders and technology teams.
  • Manage Test Plans/ Test Cases/ Defect Management and Remediation.
  • Lead and manage user acceptance testing and receive final approval.
  • Follow the standards established by the BA Organization.
  • Ensure solutions meet business needs and requirements.
  • Prepare and provide training materials when needed.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of business processes.
  • Be familiar with SDLC of a project.
  • Have great communication skills to handle and manage senior level expectations.
  • With moderate direction from others, conduct business process analyses, needs assessments, and preliminary cost/benefits analyses.
  • Administer new IT developments, keep up with evolving business requirements, and use knowledge of University systems to recommend appropriate systems alternatives and/or enhancements to current systems.
  • Perform other related work as needed.
Education

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a programming/computer science-related field.
Experience
  • Knowledge and skills developed through 3-5 years of experience in the area of business analysis.
  • Professional work experience with functional writing.
  • 3-5 years experience in elicitation of requirements.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with the development of software testing materials.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience with the development of training materials.
Certifications
  • International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) Certification.
Preferred Competencies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to demonstrate understanding in groups of people and one-on-one.
