Job Description SummaryThe Global Fraud Prevention team seeks a Data Science Manager to design and execute safer experiences for our users and protect Pay Pal Credit products from fraudsters.
Essential Responsibilities- Lead and manage data science projects, ensuring timely delivery aligned with business goals.
- Develop and maintain data models, algorithms, and reporting systems to support analysis and decision‑making.
- Analyze complex datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and insights that drive strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to understand data needs and provide actionable insights.
- Ensure data quality and integrity through regular audits and validation processes.
- Mentor and guide junior data scientists, fostering continuous learning and improvement.
- 8+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Own & execute fraud prevention strategies for global merchant lending products.
- Utilize large, complex datasets to make data‑driven decisions and answer business questions.
- Guide junior data scientists, fostering a culture of learning and improvement.
- Design and monitor risk management strategies to reduce fraud losses and improve profitability for credit products.
- Identify opportunities and gaps in current fraud risk controls and stay ahead of evolving fraud trends.
- Propose solutions balancing user experience, business enablement, operational expense, and loss exposure.
- Communicate complex findings and recommendations to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Monitor performance of existing and new solutions and optimize for desired results.
- Partner with Risk Platform, Data Science, Operations, Product Management, Legal & Compliance, and other teams to develop fraud risk solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- 8+ years of proven credit or fraud risk analytics experience or equivalent.
- Intuitive, organized analytical thinker and problem solver capable of detailed analysis.
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal skills for explaining and presenting analysis.
- Aptitude and willingness to roll up sleeves and engage in detail.
- Good business judgment with the ability to think creatively and strategically.
- Ability to work with leadership and stakeholders to define project scope and direction independently.
- Flexibility to collaborate across multiple time zones.
- Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, Excel, Power point, and Word.
Pay Pal is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The U.S. national annual pay range for this role is $152,500 to $262,350. Compensation may include an annual performance bonus or other incentive, equity, and medical, dental, vision, and additional benefits.
