The Role

To evaluate and underwrite Commercial Programs, written on a surplus-lines basis via MGA partnerships on behalf of Canopius US Insurance (CUSI), in accordance with the approved business plan and defined personal authority limits.

Responsibilities Will Include

• Review individual submissions to MGA’s for policies that fall outside of their assigned authority levels.
• Develop and maintain relationships with brokers and clients.
• Comply with company policies and risk appetite.
• Conduct Portfolio Management on assigned MGA programs ensuring adherence to Underwriting guidelines and contract terms such as risk limits, rates, and aggregate limits.
• Conduct regular portfolio reviews of MGA programs using company pricing models to ensure target loss ratios are achieved.
• Conduct monthly and annual audits.
• Further develop company relationships with assigned MGAs and broker partners which will include conducting meetings within their offices, during conferences and in CUSI offices.

Skills And Experience

• 10+ years of commercial underwriting experience.
• Technical knowledge in Commercial Property/Liability/Auto/IM/MTC/Excess/Package Underwriting in one or more of the following classes:
  Mercantile, Hospitality, Habitational, Transportation, Manufacturing, Wholesale and Cannabis
• Individual desk underwriting / quoting experience.
• Portfolio Management in terms of rate, retention and NB.
• A general understanding of quota share agreements and facultative placements.
• An understanding of catastrophe modelling, and the ability to interpret model outputs.
• Interpret written guidelines for Underwriting rules and apply to real life scenarios
• Excellent client interaction skills.
• Ability to work and learn with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment.
• Have accountability for assigned tasks.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Decision maker.
• Ability to adapt and change.

Salary range: $80,000 - $120,000
