About Corgi

Corgi is building the next generation of financial institutions. We’re rethinking how insurance, financial products, and other complex financial services are built and operated from the ground up.

Corgi is a licensed insurance carrier with several property and casualty (P&C) lines of business, and we are expanding into additional lines. We’re building modern insurance products and operating systems from the ground up, combining deep insurance expertise with technology to make insurance work better.

We move quickly, work across disciplines, and expect people to take meaningful ownership from day one. Our teams are small, ambitious, and highly execution-oriented.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Commercial Property underwriter to help build Corgi's Commercial Property underwriting capabilities.

You will evaluate and select commercial property risks while helping develop the underwriting guidelines, pricing frameworks, portfolio strategy, and processes for the business.

We are particularly interested in people who have developed sophisticated property underwriting judgment and understand how individual risk decisions translate into portfolio-level catastrophe, accumulation, and profitability considerations.

What You’ll Work On
  • Underwrite commercial property accounts and develop risk-selection standards.
  • Evaluate property characteristics, occupancy, construction, protection, exposure, loss history, and catastrophe risk.
  • Establish pricing, terms, deductibles, limits, and coverage structures.
  • Develop underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
  • Monitor geographic and peril-level accumulation.
  • Partner with actuarial and catastrophe modeling teams on pricing and portfolio management.
  • Develop processes for efficiently underwriting and monitoring property risks.
  • Work closely with brokers and distribution partners.
  • Help design products and coverage structures.
  • Build scalable underwriting infrastructure and eventually help develop the property underwriting team.
What We’re Looking For
  • 4–7+ years of Commercial Property underwriting experience.
  • Strong technical property underwriting expertise.
  • Experience with complex commercial property risks.
  • Understanding of catastrophe exposure and portfolio accumulation.
  • Strong knowledge of pricing and risk selection.
  • Experience working with brokers and sophisticated commercial accounts.
  • Strong analytical judgment and communication skills.
Especially Valuable
  • Large property or middle-market experience. Middle market: roughly $25M–$250M total insured value (TIV) or ~$25K–$250K property premium, typically single-carrier placements. Large property: $250M+ TIV or $250K+ premium, often layered, quota-share, or shared-and-layered programs, sometimes multinational.
  • CAT-exposed property experience.
  • Experience with catastrophe modeling tools (e.g., Verisk Touchstone, Moody’s RMS) and with SOV / COPE data.
  • Experience in both admitted and excess & surplus lines property.
  • Experience with portfolio underwriting.
  • Experience at FM, Chubb, Berkshire Hathaway, AIG (including Lexington), Zurich, Travelers, Liberty Mutual, AXA XL, or another major commercial property carrier.
  • Experience in both underwriting and distribution.

Benefits: Corgi offers health insurance to eligible employees, subject to applicable plan terms and eligibility requirements.
