Commercial Real Estate Paralegal
Job Description
BUPD is seeking a Commercial Real Estate Paralegal that will provide transactional support to attorneys in all phases of commercial real estate which includes coordinating due diligence, drafting and reviewing documents, managing closings, and ensuring accuracy and efficiency throughout the transaction process. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized and detail-oriented.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and manage transaction documents, including purchase and sale agreements, loans, deeds and leases.
- Coordinate and manage due diligence materials for commercial and residential real estate transactions.
- Review and summarize title commitments, exception documents, UCC searches, and surveys; prepare title and survey objection letters.
- Communicate and coordinate with title companies, lenders, surveyors, clients, and opposing counsel to facilitate smooth closings.
- Prepare closing checklists, track contingencies, and manage pre-closing and post-closing tasks.
- Assist with real estate financing transactions, including preparation and review of loan documentation, escrow instructions, and disbursement statements.
- Form and maintain entities for real estate deals (LLCs, limited partnerships, etc.) and obtain necessary EINs or good standing certificates.
- Create organizational documents, including Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, Operating Agreements and stock certificates.
- Other duties as assigned to fully meet requirements of the position.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate from an ABA‑accredited program. - Experience:
5+ years of demonstrated commercial real estate paralegal experience in a law firm or corporate legal department. - In‑depth understanding of title and survey review, closing procedures, and commercial loan documentation.
- Superior level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and document management systems.
- Experience with e‑recording platforms.
Compensation Range
Chicago, IL $75,000 – $130,000
