About the Position: Our client, an innovative Chicago‑based financial technology company, is actively seeking an attorney with 15+ years of combined in‑house and large law firm experience to join its legal team as General Counsel. The ideal candidate has in‑house experience within a fintech, financial services, or other highly regulated technology company, with General Counsel experience preferred. The attorney in this leadership role will serve as a key member of the senior leadership team, providing strategic counsel, partnering closely with executives, shaping business strategy, and leading a high‑performing team across a broad portfolio of legal and regulatory issues.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as a deeply embedded business leader, expected to develop a thorough understanding of the company’s strategy, products, operations and risk environment in order to provide practical and proactive legal guidance
• Provide legal support across a broad set of areas, including consumer financial regulation, product development, strategic partnerships, litigation, employment, M&A and corporate governance
• Manage and mentor legal team
• Manage outside counsel relationships effectively
• Operate comfortably in a highly regulated environment and support strategic regulatory initiatives
• Build strong cross‑functional partnerships with leaders across the organization

Required Qualifications:

• 15+ years of legal experience, including in‑house and large law firm experience
• Experience in fintech, financial services, or high‑growth technology (particularly in complex regulatory environments) required
• Experience with laws and regulations applicable to consumer financial products, including TILA/Regulation Z, ECOA/Regulation B, FCRA, FDCPA, SCRA, EFTA, UDAAP, GLBA is highly preferred
• Experience in public company governance and compliance preferred
• Proven experience managing and developing legal teams

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid – 3 days per week in‑office)

Compensation: The anticipated base salary range for this position is $300,000 – $350,000 (plus significant short‑term and long‑term incentive targets).
