Pay Range: $164,736 - $276,764

Rush salaries are determined by many factors including, but not limited to, education, job-related experience and skills, as well as internal equity and industry specific market data. The pay range for each role reflects Rush’s anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position. Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case.

Summary

Under the direction of the General Counsel, the Assistant General Counsel – Employment will be responsible for supporting the Senior Associate General Counsel in providing legal counsel on employment matters across Rush University System for Health. This role will partner with others in Rush Legal as well as other departments and leaders throughout Rush, including human resources.

The Assistant General Counsel position requires familiarity with and experience in counseling on federal, state, and local employment laws. This position requires a highly developed degree of business judgment, initiative, decision-making skills, and ability work both independently and as part of a team. Candidates must be self-motivated, proactive, and goal oriented.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited institution is required.
  • Must be licensed to practice law in Illinois.
  • 2-3 years of legal experience is required.
  • Familiarity with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including a timely and responsive communication style.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with excellent attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple time-sensitive projects and appropriately prioritize to adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and properly handle sensitive information.
  • Ability to work independently as well as the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to take a proactive and directive approach in problem-solving.
  • Comfortable, and excited by, working in a fast-pace high activity environment.
  • Ability to effectively work with various departments and levels and manage multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Experience providing legal counsel on employment matters and handling employment litigation is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Assist Senior Associate General Counsel in providing day-to-day legal counsel and support across Rush on a wide variety of employment issues, including, but not limited to, performance management, terminations, issues related to Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, background checks, workers’ compensation, and other federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Respond to external requests for information, including subpoenas for employment records and personnel record requests.
  • Review and interpret new federal, state, and local employment laws to identify any potential changes to internal policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Provide legal support on new and existing internal policies, procedures, and practices to ensure legal compliance.
  • Conduct research on the wide variety of employment issues as it relates to pending employment counseling matters and/or charges.
  • Assist in employment charges and litigation, including, but not limited to obtaining and reviewing documents for production.
  • Other tasks as requested by the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, and Senior Associate General Counsel.
