After 35 years as the superintendent of Butler National Golf Club, Michael Sauls has announced his plans to retire at the end of 2026. Having only 3 superintendents in the club's 53-year history, the club has hired Corey Kuhl as Mr. Sauls' successor to carry on this great tradition. Corey returns to Butler National after spending 12 years as the superintendent at Riverside Country Club in Chicago, having served as first assistant at Butler National for 5 years prior to that position.
Butler National is a private 18-hole golf club located 25 miles outside of Chicago. The club was built by developer Paul Butler in 1972 and became the permanent home of the Western Open until 1990. Since then, with the help of architect Tom Fazio, the club has continued to remain one of the top ranked golf courses in the country. The membership is committed to the traditions of golf and maintaining its world class reputation.
Most recently completed work on a recent Fazio master plan which included construction of a new maintenance building. The club will be working again with the Fazio design team on a new master plan to ensure the golf course stays relevant for years to come.
The club is looking for a strong individual to assist in a successful transition and capable of running the daily operations. Position is designed to assist with all aspects of course maintenance, including crew supervision and training, daily course preparation, quality control, and tournament set up. The individual must be a team player with good communication skills with a whatever it takes attitude to ensure the continued successes of turfgrass maintenance as established during Mr.
Sauls' tenure.
