We are currently recruiting for a Director of Commercial Claims - P&C in NYC (midtown office), Hartford, CT or Chicago, IL - Hybrid schedule in-office 2 days required. This role focuses on delivering technical expertise and strategic oversight for complex Commercial General Liability claims. The Director will drive excellence across the claims lifecycle, from reserving to resolution, while collaborating with Senior Leadership to align strategies and achieve organizational goals.
150K - 180K Base + Bonus + Benefits Package
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to the Commercial P&C Claims team, ensuring high-quality claim handling.
- Serve as a coverage expert, resolving complex coverage issues, managing coverage litigation, and coordinating with coverage counsel.
- Collaborate with Senior Claims Leadership, Underwriting, and Actuary to address claims trends, reserve strategies, litigation developments, and loss mitigation.
- Foster technical excellence through mentoring, training, and developing governance guidelines.
- Identify and analyze emerging legal and claims trends, offering actionable insights.
- Manage the claims watchlist, implementing effective resolution strategies.
- Actively participate in reserve and trial round tables to drive strategic outcomes.
- 8–10+ years of experience in insurance or litigation, with deep expertise in Commercial General Liability claims.
- JD degree strongly preferred; 3+ years of claims or law firm leadership experience is a plus.
- Proven ability to manage complex, high-severity bodily injury claims; experience with New York Labor Law and Construction Defect is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of insurance coverage and coverage litigation, with a track record of achieving strategic results.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence across all organizational levels.
- Self-motivated, collaborative, and adept at managing claims across diverse lines of business with varying complexity.
